A French Air & Space Force Mirage 2000-5 fighter crashed near Luxeuil – Saint-Sauveur Air Base in Haute-Saone, eastern France.
The aircraft was flying back from an unspecified mission when it fell into a wooded area near its base.
The pilot managed to eject and was placed under medical observation. The aircraft did not cause any injuries or ground damage.
The crash site was secured by the gendarmerie and an investigation was opened to establish the reasons behind the incident.
The 1/2 Cigognes [Storks – ed. note] fighter squadron, based in Luxeuil, is one of two French squadrons operating the Mirage 2000-5.
The Mirage 2000 is a fighter jet developed by Dassault Aviation in the 1970s. The 2000-5 is an air superiority variant of the aircraft.
The last French Dassault Mirage 2000 crash dates back to July 20, 2021, when a fighter went down in a deserted area in the region of Hombori, central Mali. Both crew members, a pilot and a weapons system officer, ejected.
